The Rhinos’ Trey Hughes and Eric Miller each scored twice, while goaltender Trent Caspar stopped all 13 Park City shots, as El Paso blanked the Moose, 6-0, to wrap up the teams\’ three-game series Saturday night.
El Paso outscored Park City, 28-3, in the three games this weekend.
The Rhinos (26-7-1, 53 points) maintain first place by a point over the Dallas Ice Jets in the Western States Hockey League\’s Mid-West Conference.
Centerman Brenden Gust started the scoring on the power play at 6:51 of the first, ripping a shot from right circle to beat Moose goalie Alex Burdekin low, stick-side.
Miller scored his first of the night at 11:04 of the opening period, nudging the puck forward past Burdekin as he fell to the ice on a breakaway.
Hughes scored just 1:58 into the second frame, ripping his left circle slap shot low and past the glove of Burdekin.
David Nelson, who notched a hat trick in Thursday\’s first game, scored at 7:23; followed by Miller\’s second just over two minutes later.
Hughes wrapped up the scoring at 17:36 of the second, depositing a nice crossing pass from defenseman Jacob Ceschin.
El Paso will head to Phoenix next weekend to take on the Knights. The first two games of the series will be broadcast live on 600 ESPN El Paso — Friday, Feb. 3, at 8 p.m. MST, and Saturday, Feb. 4, at 6:45 p.m. MST.
