Rhino Roller Camp Week 4

08/20/2014 9:59 PM -

After hosting its fourth roller hockey camp, the Rhinos have seen over fifty new and experienced players skate at Nations Tobin. In its first year of hosting the camp, many participants between the ages of 4 and 12 have learned the most basic hockey skills while applying them in a fun and friendly environment.

Here’s a run-down of the action:

As the youngsters enter the rink area, they are greeted by Rhino staff who provide necessary equipment (if needed). After suiting up, the campers complete basic stick handling and shooting drills led by assistant coaches Nick Gorup and Austin Balko. A short water break gives the skaters a chance to rest before scrimmaging for the final thirty minutes of the hour long camp.

New skaters are able to skate at their own pace along the boards with the help of Rhino staff. Inexperienced players are encouraged to participate in the scrimmage, utilizing any bit of hockey knowledge they possess.

The remaining camps will take place at the Nations Tobin Sports Center (8831 Railroad Dr.) from 5 pm to 6 pm on August 27 as well as September 3 and 10. Registration begins at 4:30 pm. Participants may attend any number of sessions. Email Tom Herman at therman@rhinohockey.org to secure a camp slot.

*If the camper has his or her own equipment, he or she is encouraged to wear it. For players in need, all equipment, except roller blades, will be provided.
