El Paso Locks Up First Place
Feb. 19, 2012
El Paso, TX – It was a long six game series that spanned ten days for El Paso Rhinos and the Texas Brahmas although it probably felt longer for the latter. Sure Texas took game one in overtime, but after that, El Paso wouldn’t accept losing as they took 11 of 12 points over the two weekends.
It’s no secret that the Rhinos have been playing some of the best hockey we’ve seen all season long by anyone, but Sunday’s game put an exclamation mark on what they have accomplished so far. Goalie Trent Casper’s stellar play between the pipes led the home team to a 5-1 victory as they now have only one series remaining before the playoffs.
Their final opponents of the regular season will be none other than the ones who have been nipping at their heels just about all season long: The Dallas Ice Jets. And while it doesn’t matter what happens points-wise for El Paso, the Brahmas are only five points behind the Ice Jets with six games to play. Dallas also has six remaining but if they get swept this weekend then things could get interesting down the stretch.
This is the time of the year everybody has been waiting for. With playoffs right around the corner, the Rhinos have locked up first place in the Mid-West Conference. Now the question is, will they keep pushing or will they let up? We’ll find out this upcoming weekend.
